Installation of Photovoltaic Panels onto Existing Almshouses
CLIENT The Richmond Charities
DATES Commissioned 2022
In 2022, Clive Chapman Architects was commissioned to research potentially suitable solutions for the installation of photovoltaic panels on existing almshouse sites, owned by The Richmond Charities. Since then, applications for seven sites have been approved. These sites include Grade II and Grade II* Listed Buildings, setting a precedent for the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames.
In October 2023, we were pleased to attend The Richmond Society’s Annual Awards on 19th October 2023, celebrating outstanding contributions to the architecture of Richmond, where our solar panel project for The Richmond Charities' almshouses received a commendation.
The design of the panel placements and orientation is evidence-based, through the use of computer simulations to quantify the greatest yield. This process ensures a much-needed sustainable solution for an optimal reduction of energy costs for The Richmond Charities’ residents, whose ethos is to support and house elderly people in need.
