The existing building on the site is a single-storey three bedroom bungalow in considerable state of disrepair, in Flood Zone 3 on Eel Pie Island, Twickenham. The proposals comprise demolition of the existing building and construction of a new flood-resilient three-bedroom, single-family dwelling.
In recognition of the unique character of Eel Pie Island, and the Conservation Area as a whole, contextual sensitivity needs to be of the utmost importance for any development proposals for the site. Reflecting on the pattern of development on Eel Pie Island will inform the schematic approach; whilst appropriate materiality and detailing will ensure that the building is architecturally distinctive, providing an improvement on the quality of and enhancing the built environment.
