40 new residential units and 100m2 of Class E Use (Commercial, Business and Service), at Woodthorpe Road and Station Road, Ashford.

The proposals include communal landscaped gardens and play spaces, together with set back roof terraces and private balconies, a green roof and the introduction of new street trees to the public realm.

The design will target a high level of sustainability, being classed as ‘major’ new residential development, and therefore aims to demonstrate a zero carbon standard as per the Spelthorne emerging Local Plan (PS1). Systems and principles being explored are:

  • super insulated fabric;

  • air source heat pumps, and roof mounted PV arrays;

  • extensive ‘native wild flower’ green roof;

  • terraces for solar shading, ventilation and privacy;

  • recycling of existing building materials for hardcore.
